Hand-pick and destroy adults, nymphs, and egg clusters
Check plants daily, especially leaf undersides
Crush egg masses between fingers or remove with tape
Use row covers early in the season and remove at flowering
Keep garden debris and weeds cleared away
Rotate crops each year
Remove and destroy infested vines after harvest
Use trap plants like blue hubbard squash
Apply insecticidal soap to young nymphs
Apply neem oil to young nymphs
Use pyrethrin or other labeled insecticides if needed
Spray in the evening and target undersides of leaves
Maintain healthy, vigorous plants with proper watering and mulching
Avoid planting squash too early in the season
Clean up and dispose of plant residue at season’s end
