Wash the pan with hot water and a small amount of mild soap
Scrub off any factory coating or residue
Dry the pan completely
Heat the pan on the stove over low heat until all moisture is gone
Apply a very thin layer of high-smoke-point oil to the entire surface, inside and out
Wipe off all excess oil until the pan looks almost dry
Place the pan upside down in a preheated oven at 450–500°F
Put foil or a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch drips
Bake for 45–60 minutes
Turn off the oven and let the pan cool inside
Repeat the oiling and baking process 2–4 times
Use the pan regularly with a little oil or fat
Avoid soaking the pan in water
Dry the pan immediately after washing
Apply a light coat of oil after each cleaning if needed
