You cannot reliably check for appendicitis at home
Watch for pain that starts near the belly button and moves to the lower right abdomen
Watch for pain that gets worse with walking, coughing, or movement
Check for loss of appetite
Check for nausea or vomiting
Check for fever
Check for bloating or abdominal swelling
Check for constipation or diarrhea
Check for tenderness in the lower right abdomen
Seek urgent medical care if the pain is severe, worsening, or localized to the lower right side
Seek emergency care if there is a rigid abdomen, high fever, fainting, or repeated vomiting
Do not eat or drink much if appendicitis is suspected
Do not take laxatives or use heating pads if appendicitis is suspected
