Wash your hands thoroughly
Clean the earring and surrounding area with saline or rubbing alcohol
Hold the front of the earring steady
Grip the flat back firmly with your other hand
Twist the back counterclockwise if it is a screw-on type
Pull the back straight off if it is a push-pull type
Gently wiggle the post while removing the back if it feels stuck
Use a clean tissue or rubber glove for better grip
Do not force it if it will not budge
