Apply a cold compress or ice wrapped in a cloth for 10–20 minutes at a time, several times in the first 24–48 hours
After 48 hours, switch to warm compresses (warm, not hot) for 10–20 minutes at a time, several times a day

Keep the area moisturized and avoid picking or scratching
Avoid alcohol and smoking if possible, as they can worsen bruising
Wear concealing makeup or clothing to cover it while it heals
Seek medical advice if the hickey is unusually large, very painful, or not improving after about a week, or if you have frequent unexplained bruising
