Align the lock to the correct starting position
Turn the dial slowly to the first number
Pass the first number once if required by the lock type
Stop on the first number
Turn the dial in the opposite direction to the second number
Stop on the second number
Turn the dial again to the third number if the lock has one
Stop on the third number
Pull up on the shackle or open the latch
If it does not open, reset the dial and try the sequence again
