Locate the lock’s model and reset mechanism (if any) on the body or shackle
Try the known combination (if you have it) by setting the dial to the first number, then the second, then the third
If unsure, try common manufacturer default combinations (such as 000, 111, 123, 999) one at a time
If the lock has a dial with a visible window, align the dial markings to the exact numbers before attempting to open
Turn the dial slowly and consistently; apply light pressure to the shackle while attempting to open
If the lock has a keyhole or release tab, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to use the combination to unlock first
If you cannot determine the combination, contact the lock manufacturer with the lock model/serial number
If the lock is yours and you’re authorized to access it, use a locksmith or follow local legal guidance for non-destructive entry
If you must remove it, use appropriate tools only as allowed by local laws and only when you have authorization
