Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing near the area
Gently pat the skin dry
Cover with a clean, non-stick sterile dressing or cling film
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Apply aloe vera gel or a fragrance-free moisturizer after cooling
Keep the burned area elevated if possible
Avoid ice, butter, toothpaste, or oily creams
Do not pop blisters
Seek urgent medical help for large, deep, or facial burns, or burns on hands, feet, genitals, or major joints
Get medical care if the burn looks infected, is worsening, or was caused by chemicals or electricity
