Wash the bite with soap and water
Apply a cold compress for 10 minutes at a time
Keep the affected area elevated if possible
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Use an antihistamine for itching if appropriate
Monitor for spreading redness, swelling, or worsening pain
Seek medical care if the bite is from a venomous spider or if the spider was not identified and symptoms are severe
Get urgent medical help for trouble breathing, chest pain, muscle cramps, fever, vomiting, or a rapidly worsening wound
Do not cut, suck, or squeeze the bite
Do not apply heat or use tight bandages unless instructed by a clinician
