How To Lay Wooden Floorboards?

Acclimate the floorboards in the room for the recommended time

Remove existing flooring, trim, and obstacles

Clean, dry, and level the subfloor

Check for squeaks, damage, moisture, and loose boards

Install a moisture barrier or underlayment if required

Measure the room and plan the board layout

Mark a straight starting line

Cut the first row to fit if needed

Lay the first row with the tongue or groove facing the correct direction

Leave expansion gaps around all walls and fixed objects

Secure the first row with nails, staples, or adhesive as appropriate

Stagger end joints between rows

Fit each new board tightly to the previous row

Tap boards together using a tapping block and mallet

Cut boards to fit around corners, doorways, and vents

Continue laying rows across the room

Use a pull bar for the final rows

Trim the last row to the correct width

Install baseboards or skirting to cover expansion gaps

Fill nail holes and touch up as needed

Clean the floor and inspect for gaps or loose boards
