Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C)
Pat chicken breast dry
Season both sides with salt and black pepper
Optional: add garlic powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, or chili powder
Place chicken on a foil-lined or parchment-lined baking sheet
Optional: drizzle with olive oil or brush with melted butter
Optional: add lemon slices or a few pats of butter on top
Bake 18–25 minutes, depending on thickness, until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C)
For even cooking, use chicken breasts of similar thickness or pound to an even thickness
Rest 5 minutes before slicing or serving
