Drain the system manually if it has drain valves
Use compressed air to blow out remaining water from each zone
Open and close each valve as needed to release trapped water
Drain and insulate the backflow preventer if required
Remove, drain, and store any above-ground components
Disconnect and drain hoses, timers, and accessories
Insulate exposed pipes, valves, and fittings
Set the controller to rain mode or turn it off
Check that all sprinkler heads are clear of debris
Verify all zones are fully emptied before freezing weather
Inspect the system for leaks or damage before winter
Schedule a professional blowout if needed
