Wash your hands thoroughly
Stand in front of a mirror with bright light
Gargle vigorously with warm salt water
Cough gently to try to dislodge it
Use a clean cotton swab to press gently around the tonsil stone
Use a water flosser on the lowest setting aimed carefully at the stone
Use a clean oral irrigator or syringe with lukewarm water
Try a gentle throat-clearing motion
Brush your teeth and tongue after removal
Rinse your mouth again with warm salt water
Stop if you feel pain, bleeding, or gagging
Seek medical or dental care if it will not come out, keeps returning, or causes severe pain, swelling, fever, or trouble swallowing
