Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan
Add cold water until the eggs are covered by about 1 inch
Bring the water to a full boil over medium-high heat
Turn off the heat as soon as the water reaches a boil
Cover the pan with a lid
Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 9 to 12 minutes
Transfer the eggs immediately to an ice bath
Let the eggs cool in the ice bath for at least 5 minutes
Peel the eggs under cool running water if needed
Store peeled or unpeeled eggs in the refrigerator
