Check for and fix the underlying issue before clearing the light
Use an OBD-II scanner to read stored codes
Record the codes and freeze-frame data (if available)
Clear codes using the scanner’s “Clear/Erase” function
Turn the ignition off, then back on to confirm the light is off
If no scanner is available, disconnect the vehicle’s battery for 10–20 minutes
Reconnect the battery and start the vehicle
Drive the vehicle for a short period to allow readiness monitors to update
If the light returns, re-scan for codes and address the cause
