Drink water
Check your blood sugar
Take insulin or diabetes medication as prescribed
Follow your correction dose plan if you have one
Walk or do light exercise only if your blood sugar is not very high and ketones are absent
Avoid sugary drinks and snacks
Eat a balanced meal with controlled carbohydrates
Recheck your blood sugar after 15 to 30 minutes if using a correction plan
Test for ketones if your blood sugar is very high
Seek urgent medical help if you have vomiting, confusion, trouble breathing, severe weakness, or very high blood sugar that does not come down
