How To Store Colostrum?

Wash and dry your hands before handling colostrum

Collect colostrum into a clean sterile syringe, container, or milk storage bag

Label each container with the date and time collected

Refrigerate immediately if using within 24 hours

Store in the back of the refrigerator, not in the door

Freeze if not using within 24 hours

Freeze in small portions to reduce waste

Leave a little space at the top of the container for expansion

Use the oldest stored colostrum first

Thaw frozen colostrum in the refrigerator or in warm water

Do not refreeze thawed colostrum

Do not microwave colostrum

Keep thawed colostrum refrigerated and use promptly

Follow any storage instructions from your healthcare provider or lactation consultant
