Wash your feet daily with mild soap and lukewarm water
Dry your feet thoroughly, especially between the toes
Apply a thick moisturizer or heel balm twice daily
Use products containing urea, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or glycerin
Apply petroleum jelly at night and wear cotton socks
Soak feet briefly in lukewarm water before moisturizing
Gently exfoliate thick, dry skin with a pumice stone or foot file
Avoid over-scrubbing or cutting the skin
Wear closed-back, supportive shoes with cushioned soles
Avoid walking barefoot or wearing open-backed sandals
Use heel cups or cushioned insoles if needed
Keep feet protected from very hot water and harsh soaps
Stay hydrated and maintain good skin care
Treat athlete’s foot or eczema if present
Seek medical care if cracks are deep, bleeding, painful, infected, or not improving
Seek medical care sooner if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or neuropathy
