How To Bake A Potato In Oven?

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C)

Scrub potatoes clean under running water

Pat potatoes dry

Poke 6–8 holes in each potato with a fork

Rub potatoes with olive oil (optional)

Sprinkle with salt (optional)

Place potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet

Bake 45–60 minutes for medium potatoes, or 60–75 minutes for large potatoes

Check doneness by inserting a knife into the thickest part (it should slide in easily)

Remove from oven

Let potatoes rest 5–10 minutes

Slice lengthwise and fluff the inside with a fork

Top with butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, or desired toppings
