How To Do Orthostatic BP?

Have the patient lie supine and rest for 5 minutes

Measure and record blood pressure and pulse while supine

Have the patient stand up

Measure and record blood pressure and pulse at 1 minute after standing

Measure and record blood pressure and pulse again at 3 minutes after standing

Watch for dizziness, lightheadedness, or near-syncope

Compare supine and standing readings for changes in blood pressure and heart rate

Document all readings, times, and symptoms
