Act fast: blot or scrape off excess Sharpie ink without spreading it
Check the fabric care label for “washable” and temperature limits
Test an inconspicuous area with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
Place a clean white cloth or paper towel under the stained area
Dab the stain with a cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol; keep blotting until ink lifts
Rinse the area with cold water
Wash the garment immediately using the hottest water safe for the fabric and a heavy-duty laundry detergent
For stubborn ink: repeat rubbing alcohol dabbing before washing again
If rubbing alcohol isn’t enough: use hand sanitizer (alcohol-based), dab, then rinse and wash
For remaining color/ghosting: apply a small amount of oxygen bleach (color-safe) to the stain, soak per label directions, then wash
For white cotton only: use chlorine bleach only if the care label allows it and the ink stain is fully removed first
Avoid heat (dryer/ironing) until the stain is completely gone
If the fabric is delicate (silk/wool/acetate): use rubbing alcohol sparingly after testing, then take to a professional cleaner if needed
