Park a working car close enough for the jumper cables to reach
Turn both cars off and remove the keys
Put both cars in park or neutral and set the parking brakes
Open both hoods and locate the batteries
Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign
Identify the negative terminal marked with a minus sign
Connect one red clamp to the dead battery’s positive terminal
Connect the other red clamp to the working battery’s positive terminal
Connect one black clamp to the working battery’s negative terminal
Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal ground on the dead car
Start the working car and let it run for a few minutes
Try starting the dead car
If it starts, let both cars run for several minutes
Remove the cables in reverse order
Keep the revived car running for at least 15 to 30 minutes
If the car does not start, check the connections and try again
If it still does not start, call roadside assistance or a mechanic
