Drink water or an oral rehydration solution
Eat something light (toast, bananas, rice, soup)
Avoid alcohol and caffeine
Drink electrolyte-rich fluids (sports drinks, coconut water, broth)
Take a shower or use light stretching to feel better
Get rest and sleep as much as possible
Use ginger tea or peppermint tea if nausea is present
For headache or body aches: take acetaminophen (only if you are not drinking more alcohol and you do not have liver disease)
For headache or body aches: take ibuprofen or naproxen with food (avoid if you have stomach ulcers, kidney disease, or are dehydrated)
Consider an anti-nausea medication if you already have one that’s safe for you
Avoid taking more than the label dose of any pain reliever
Skip greasy or very spicy foods
Check for red-flag symptoms and seek urgent care if needed (vomiting that won’t stop, confusion, trouble breathing, fainting, seizures, severe abdominal pain, blood in vomit or stool, very dark urine, or inability to keep fluids down)
