Drink water or an oral rehydration solution
Eat a light meal (toast, bananas, soup, eggs)
Sip electrolyte drinks if available
Avoid alcohol “hair of the dog”
Rest and sleep
Avoid smoking
Take a shower or use a gentle stretch if you feel up to it
Use ginger or peppermint tea for nausea
For headache: take acetaminophen (paracetamol) only if you can safely avoid exceeding the daily limit and you are not at risk of liver disease
For headache: consider ibuprofen or naproxen with food if you can safely take NSAIDs
Avoid taking multiple pain relievers that overlap (especially products containing acetaminophen)
Avoid acetaminophen if you have heavy ongoing alcohol use or liver disease
If vomiting: take small sips of water or electrolyte solution and wait before eating
Seek urgent care if there is confusion, repeated vomiting, trouble breathing, fainting, seizures, severe abdominal pain, black/bloody vomit, or symptoms that worsen or don’t improve within 24 hours
