Set up the board on a 15×15 grid (place stones on intersections).
Choose who plays first (typically Black goes first).
On your turn, place one stone of your color on an empty intersection.
Do not move stones after placing them.
After each placement, check whether you created an unbroken line of exactly five stones of your color in any direction (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal).
If you make a line of five, you win immediately.
If no win occurs, the turn passes to the other player.
Follow any additional rule set you are using (especially for “overline” and “double-three/double-four” restrictions, if applicable).
For common freestyle rules: six or more in a row can still count as a win.
For common standard rules (Renju): certain openings or patterns may be restricted for the first player; apply the rule set you are playing under.
Continue until a win condition is met.
