How To Replace Faucet Cartridge?

Turn off the water supply valves to the faucet

Open the faucet to relieve pressure and let water drain

Cover the drain with a rag or stopper to prevent losing small parts

Remove the faucet handle(s)

Remove any decorative cap and loosen the handle screw/retainer

Lift off the handle and any trim pieces as needed

Remove the packing nut or retaining nut around the cartridge

Use the correct wrench or pliers to loosen and remove the cartridge retaining hardware

Pull the cartridge straight out using gentle steady force

If the cartridge is stuck, apply penetrating oil and let it sit, then carefully pull again

Remove any O-rings or seals from the old cartridge

Clean the cartridge seat and interior housing of mineral deposits and debris

Inspect the seat for damage and replace parts if needed

Install new cartridge (ensure correct orientation/alignment)

Replace O-rings/seals (or install the new ones included with the cartridge kit)

Lubricate O-rings with plumber’s grease if included/recommended by the kit

Reinsert the cartridge fully into the valve body

Reinstall the retaining nut/packing nut

Reinstall trim pieces and handle

Tighten handle screw/retainer and replace decorative cap

Turn on water supply valves

Open the faucet and check for leaks around the handle and base

If leaks occur, shut off water and recheck cartridge seating and O-rings

Flush the faucet by running hot and cold for a short time to clear debris
