Gather ingredients: chili (chopped onion, garlic, bell pepper), ground beef (or turkey), chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth (or water), kidney beans (optional)
Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat
Sauté onion until softened
Add garlic and bell pepper; cook until fragrant and slightly tender
Brown the ground meat; drain excess fat if needed
Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper
Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste; mix well
Add broth (enough to reach your desired thickness)

Add kidney beans (optional) and simmer 10–20 minutes more
