Turn off the water supply to the tap
Open the tap to drain any remaining water
Plug the sink drain to prevent losing small parts
Remove the tap handle
Take out the retaining screw or cap
Remove the valve stem or cartridge
Inspect the washer, O-ring, and seals
Replace any worn, cracked, or damaged parts
Clean mineral buildup from the components
Reassemble the tap
Turn the water supply back on
Test the tap for leaks
Tighten fittings if needed
Replace the entire cartridge or tap if the leak continues
