Rest and avoid strenuous activity
Sip water slowly
Try clear fluids like broth or oral rehydration solution
Eat bland foods if you can tolerate food, such as toast, rice, bananas, or applesauce
Avoid greasy, spicy, or heavy foods
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and carbonated drinks
Try a warm heating pad or warm compress on your abdomen
Lie on your side with your knees slightly bent
Take an antacid if the pain is from indigestion or heartburn
Take simethicone if the pain is from gas
Try ginger tea or peppermint tea
Avoid lying flat right after eating
Use over-the-counter pain medicine only if it is safe for you and does not upset your stomach
Get medical help right away if the pain is severe, sudden, or comes with fever, vomiting, blood, chest pain, trouble breathing, a hard abdomen, or pain lasting more than a few hours
