How To Grow Figs?

Choose a sunny location with at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight

Plant in well-draining soil

Space fig trees 10 to 20 feet apart depending on variety

Plant in spring after the last frost

Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and as deep as the root ball

Set the tree at the same depth it was growing in the container

Backfill with soil and water thoroughly

Mulch around the base without touching the trunk

Water regularly during the first growing season

Reduce watering once established

Fertilize lightly in early spring if needed

Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the tree

Protect young trees from frost in cold climates

Grow in containers if space is limited

Repot container-grown figs as they outgrow their pots

Harvest figs when they are soft and fully colored

Remove damaged or diseased branches as needed
