Pull over to a safe, level area away from traffic
Turn on hazard lights
Set the parking brake
Put the car in park or in gear
Place wheel wedges or blocks behind the opposite tires
Remove the spare tire and jack from the vehicle
Remove the wheel cover or hubcap if needed
Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the tire is still on the ground
Position the jack under the correct lift point
Raise the vehicle until the flat tire is off the ground
Remove the lug nuts completely
Take off the flat tire
Mount the spare tire onto the wheel studs
Hand-tighten the lug nuts
Lower the vehicle until the tire touches the ground
Tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern
Fully lower the vehicle
Tighten the lug nuts again in a crisscross pattern
Reinstall the wheel cover or hubcap if applicable
Stow the flat tire, jack, and tools
Check the spare tire pressure as soon as possible
Drive cautiously and follow any spare tire speed limits
Have the flat tire repaired or replaced soon
