How To Replace Shower Drain?

Turn off water to the shower if needed

Remove the drain cover or strainer

Clean out hair, debris, and old sealant

Inspect the drain type and measure the opening

Remove the old drain body using the proper drain wrench or pliers

Cut away any old plumber’s putty, caulk, or sealant

Check the condition of the drain pipe and surrounding area

Apply plumber’s putty or silicone sealant to the new drain flange if required

Insert the new drain body into the opening

Tighten the drain securely without overtightening

Reinstall the drain cover or strainer

Run water and check for leaks around the drain

Apply additional sealant if leaks are present

Clean up any excess sealant and debris
