Press the test/reset button
Clean dust and debris from the detector
Check for a loose battery door or cover
Replace the battery if it is low or expired
Replace the detector if it is past its expiration date
Check whether the detector is hardwired and confirm power is on
Reset the detector after restoring power
Replace the entire unit if chirping continues
