How To Stretch Carpet?

Clear the room of furniture and remove baseboard trim if needed

Check for loose tack strips, damaged padding, or carpet seams before stretching

Use a knee kicker to move the carpet into position near the walls

Use a power stretcher to stretch the carpet from wall to wall

Hook the stretcher head into the carpet and brace the base against the opposite wall

Extend the stretcher slowly to remove wrinkles and slack

Reposition and repeat in sections until the carpet is tight

Press the carpet firmly onto the tack strips along the edges

Trim excess carpet with a carpet knife

Tuck the edges under the baseboard or into the gap with a stair tool or carpet tucker

Reinstall baseboard trim if removed

Check the entire room for remaining ripples and restretch if necessary
