Park the vehicle on a level surface and let the engine cool completely
Open the hood and locate the coolant reservoir
Check the coolant level against the MIN and MAX marks on the reservoir
If the reservoir is translucent, inspect the level from the outside
If needed, remove the reservoir cap only when the engine is cold
Verify the coolant reaches the proper fill line
Check the radiator level only if the vehicle manual says it is safe to do so
Inspect for leaks, cracks, or low fluid around the reservoir, hoses, and radiator
Add the correct type of antifreeze/coolant if the level is low
Recheck the level after topping off and after the engine has cooled again
