Apply a warm compress to the affected ear for 10–15 minutes
Take over-the-counter pain relievers as directed on the label
Keep the ear dry
Sleep with the painful ear slightly elevated
Chew gum or swallow to help relieve pressure
Use saline nasal spray if ear pain is related to congestion
Avoid putting cotton swabs or objects in the ear
Avoid loud noises
Stay hydrated
See a doctor if the pain is severe, lasts more than a day or two, or comes with fever, drainage, hearing loss, or dizziness
