If the baby is under 1 month old, has not pooped in 24 hours, or seems unwell, contact a pediatrician right away
Make sure the baby is feeding enough, since low intake can cause constipation
Offer more frequent breastfeeds or formula feeds if appropriate
Gently move the baby’s legs in a bicycle motion
Gently massage the baby’s tummy in a clockwise direction
Give the baby a warm bath
Hold the baby upright after feeds
If the baby is on formula, check that it is mixed exactly as directed
If the baby has started solids, offer age-appropriate fruits or purees such as prunes, pears, or peaches
Avoid giving water, juice, or laxatives unless a pediatrician says to do so
Seek medical care urgently if the baby has a swollen belly, vomiting, blood in the stool, severe pain, fever, or hard dry stools with distress
