Offer extra breast milk or formula feeds if age-appropriate
If your baby is old enough for solids, offer pureed prunes, pears, peaches, or plums
Give small amounts of water only if your pediatrician says it is okay
Try gentle tummy massage in a clockwise direction
Move your baby’s legs in a bicycle motion
Give a warm bath to help relax the belly
Check that formula is mixed exactly as directed
Make sure solid foods are not too binding, such as lots of rice cereal or bananas
Keep track of stool frequency, texture, and any signs of discomfort
Call a pediatrician if constipation lasts more than a few days or keeps coming back
Seek medical care right away if there is vomiting, a swollen belly, blood in stool, fever, poor feeding, or severe pain
