Fill a large pot with enough water to cover the lobster tails
Add salt to the water
Bring the water to a rolling boil
Thaw frozen lobster tails completely if needed
Use kitchen shears to cut the top shell down the center
Pull the meat slightly out of the shell if desired
Place the lobster tails into the boiling water
Boil for about 1 minute per ounce of tail
Cook until the shells are bright red and the meat is opaque and firm
Remove the lobster tails from the pot with tongs
Drain the lobster tails
Serve immediately with melted butter if desired
