Sit or lie down and rest quietly
Take slow, deep breaths
Avoid caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, and exercise
Drink a glass of water if you may be dehydrated
Loosen tight clothing
Take prescribed blood pressure medication exactly as directed
Recheck your blood pressure after 5 to 10 minutes of rest
If your blood pressure is 180/120 or higher, seek urgent medical care immediately
If you have chest pain, shortness of breath, severe headache, confusion, weakness, vision changes, or fainting, call emergency services immediately
