Measure the door opening and confirm the wall cavity can fit a pocket door frame
Remove drywall from the wall section where the pocket door will slide
Check for electrical wires, plumbing, and HVAC in the wall
Remove existing studs in the pocket door area as needed
Install the pocket door frame kit according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Set the header and track assembly level and securely fasten it
Install the split studs and guide brackets for the pocket cavity
Verify the rough opening dimensions match the door slab size
Hang the door slab on the rollers
Adjust the rollers so the door slides smoothly and stays level
Install the floor guide at the bottom of the opening
Test the door for proper movement and alignment
Add drywall to both sides of the wall
Tape, mud, sand, and finish the drywall
Install casing and trim around the opening
Install the pull handle and latch hardware
Paint or stain the door and trim as needed
Final-adjust the rollers and hardware after finishing
Confirm the door fully opens, closes, and latches properly
