Trim and sand the edge smooth
Dampen the edge lightly with water or edge dressing
Apply a small amount of gum tragacanth, saddle soap, or beeswax
Rub the edge firmly with a burnishing tool, wooden slicker, or canvas
Continue until the edge becomes smooth and glossy
Repeat applying moisture and burnishing as needed
Finish with wax or edge paint if desired
Let the edge dry completely before use
