Turn off the breaker for the outlet circuit
Verify the power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the outlet cover plate
Unscrew and pull the outlet out of the electrical box
Take a photo of the wire connections
Disconnect the wires from the old outlet
Connect the wires to the new outlet
Connect black or red wire to brass screw
Connect white wire to silver screw
Connect bare or green ground wire to green screw
Tighten all terminal screws securely
Fold the wires neatly back into the box
Screw the new outlet into the electrical box
Reinstall the cover plate
Turn the breaker back on
Test the outlet with a plug-in tester or device
