Turn off the power at the circuit breaker
Verify the power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the old light bulb, if present
Remove the fixture cover or canopy
Unscrew the fixture from the mounting bracket
Support the fixture while disconnecting the wires
Disconnect the wire nuts from the black, white, and ground wires
Remove the old mounting bracket, if needed
Install the new mounting bracket
Connect the new fixture wires to the house wires
Match black to black, white to white, and ground to ground
Secure the wire connections with wire nuts
Tuck the wires into the electrical box
Attach the new fixture to the mounting bracket
Install the cover, shade, or bulb
Restore power at the breaker
Test the new light fixture
