Turn off the car and remove the keys
Put on safety gloves and eye protection
Open the hood and locate the battery
Check the battery for cracks, leaks, or corrosion
If using a charger, make sure it is turned off and unplugged before connecting
Connect the red clamp to the positive battery terminal
Connect the black clamp to the negative battery terminal or a grounded metal point if recommended
Set the charger to the correct voltage and charging mode
Plug in and turn on the charger
Let the battery charge until the charger indicates it is full
Turn off and unplug the charger before removing the clamps
Remove the black clamp first
Remove the red clamp second
Close the hood
Start the car and let it run to help maintain the charge
