Use the author’s last name and the year of publication
Format: (Author, Year)
For a direct quote, include the page number: (Author, Year, p. X)
For two authors, use both last names joined by an ampersand: (Author & Author, Year)
For three or more authors, use the first author’s last name followed by et al.: (Author et al., Year)
If the author is a group or organization, use the group name: (Organization Name, Year)
If no author is listed, use a shortened title in quotation marks: (“Title,” Year)
If no date is listed, use n.d. instead of the year: (Author, n.d.)
Place the citation before the period in a sentence
Use page numbers for quotes, and paragraph numbers for sources without pages: (Author, Year, para. X)
