Turn off the garbage disposal switch or unplug the unit

Remove any visible debris from the sink opening or disposal chamber

Run cold water

Pour 1–2 cups of baking soda into the disposal

Wait 5–10 minutes

Pour 1–2 cups of white vinegar into the disposal

Let it fizz for 5–10 minutes

Run cold water for 30–60 seconds to flush

If odors persist, repeat the baking soda + vinegar cycle once

For grease buildup, run hot water while the disposal runs for 30–60 seconds

Clean the splash guard area with a damp cloth and mild dish soap

Wipe the underside lip of the sink drain with a cloth

Sanitize with a small amount of diluted bleach solution (only if manufacturer allows): run 1–2 tablespoons bleach in a sink of water, then flush with cold water

Reassemble any removed parts and reinstall the disposal cover if applicable

Run the disposal with cold water for 10–20 seconds after cleaning

If the disposal is clogged, stop and clear the jam before attempting cleaning again
