Open the Chase app or sign in to Chase Online
Go to the checking account you want to close
Select the option for account services or settings
Choose to close or cancel the account (if available online)
If online closure isn’t available, schedule a visit to a local Chase branch
Bring a government-issued photo ID and your account details
Alternatively, call Chase customer service and request an account closure
Ask to confirm the closure date and whether there are any pending fees
Request confirmation of closure in writing or by email
Verify all pending transactions have cleared before closure
Stop all direct deposits and bill payments from the account
Transfer remaining funds to another account
Close any linked accounts (debit card, overdraft protection, savings links) if applicable
Remove any external account connections (Zelle, transfers, bill pay) tied to the checking account
Keep records of the final statement and the closure confirmation
Monitor the account for any remaining activity for several weeks after the requested closure date
