Ensure both computers are powered on and connected to the internet or the same network

Install a remote desktop app or use the built-in remote access tool
Open the remote access client on your computer
Enter the target computer’s IP address, hostname, or access ID
Provide the required username and password or access code
Accept any security prompts or connection requests on the target computer
Start the remote session
Use the remote controls to access files, apps, and settings
Disconnect when finished
Keep remote access software updated
Use strong passwords and two-factor authentication if available
