Scrub the potato clean
Dry the potato thoroughly
Pierce the potato several times with a fork
Rub the potato with oil
Sprinkle the potato with salt
Place the potato directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet
Bake for 45 to 60 minutes
Check for doneness by inserting a fork or knife into the center
Remove the potato from the oven
Let it cool for a few minutes
Slice open the potato
Fluff the inside with a fork
Add toppings as desired
